EDDY FARM HOUSE

Tucked into rural Chilmark, the house overlooks a natural meadow and wetlands and distant ocean views beyond. To get those views, the design required a careful balance that maximized height and floor area while staying within the lot’s extensive restrictions, including zoning height limitations, deeded setbacks, wetlands buffer zones, and septic/health department constraints. In addition, the oddly-shaped small lot required a careful study of the site and context so that every room in the house opens up to direct sunlight and natural landscape, instead of nearby neighbors.

The kitchen anchors the back of the house and extends onto a private deck and garden--creating an outdoor room for the house. The living spaces are oriented onto long views of the meadow and ocean with a 25-foot sliding glass wall that opens to extend the living space onto an outdoor lounge deck.
