OAK HILL HOUSE

Set in a suburban neighborhood just outside of Boston, the house maximizes the allowable floor area on the highly restrictive site. And the design process included several options and iterations that balanced detailed design elements and finishes with budget considerations.

Setting the finish floor elevations became a particular challenge and required a careful and strategic reading of the zoning guidelines, FEMA floodplain restrictions in order to maximize the amount of living space with access to natural light and views. From the street, the house appears to be a 2-story structure, but on the back side of the house, the design takes advantage of the sloping site to create a 3rd level of living space with direct access to the outdoors.

Susi Sanchez completed this project as a Principal at Charles Rose Architects.
